WHAT CAUSES ACID ATTACK?


Leading a sedentary lifestyle in a big city can make us vulnerable to frequent bouts of acidity and gas. At certain times, when the acidity and gas get severe, people experience pain, bloating and tightness of the stomach.Some might complain of nagging headaches too.

Becoming aware of the causes of acidity and taking simple preventive steps can help us overcome the condition through natural means.


WHAT CAUSES ACIDITY?


  • When you eat an oil- rich meal late at night, it leads to severe acidity and gas in the morning. So, clearly avoid foods that are rich in fats like gravy.These are difficult to digest.
  • Skipping breakfast is a common cause for acidity. In case you rush out in the morning without having breakfast, it can result in acid build up in the second half of the day.
  • Having several cups of strong tea or coffee in the morning, especially on an empty stomach, can have adverse effects such as acidity, gas and weight gain(particularly when the tea or coffee is not sugar free).
  • When we eat incompatible food combinations, the food ferments in the stomach and the undigested food particles can lead to acidity and gas.

  • Don't  be a lazybones. Being very sedentary can lead to excessive burping and acidity.
  • When you feel rushed for time, your breathing becomes shallower and the muscles get constricted. The outcome acidity and gas build up.

THE BATTLE AGAINST GAS!

Acidity and gas can manifest themselves as acute pain in the middle of the chest. Acidity leads to burping and acid reflux in the oesophagus. These problems are caused mostly by irregular food timings and regular intake of tea and coffee on an empty stomach.

Here's a step by step strategy against gas:

. Avoid fries

  • Kick out heavy dals such as rajma, chana and deep fried foods from your dinner plate. Because pulses are proteinaceous in nature and protein takes longest time to digest which is not possible in night time and it remains undigested which leads to acid and gas build up.

  • Drink a glass of lukewarm water after you wake up in the morning as this will help in eliminating all the waste from the intestinal tract and detoxifying your body. Thus leaving you toxin free.

  • Instead of skipping breakfast, have a light breakfast that includes sprouts, steamed idlis, poha, upma, egg whites , porridge, oats, corn flakes etc.

  • Avoid milk in case  you are lactose- intolerant.

  • Eat banana if you feel like acidity is building in your stomach.


  • Natural herbs that control gas include hing, ajwain and salt. These can be taken in small quantity like a natural medicine with lukewarm water. These can be used in cooking also.

  • Avoid dairy products in the morning especially tea with milk.

  • Eating raw cucumber is good for an acidic stomach. Frequent belching is cured by having cucumber juice. Cucumber has a cleansing effect on the whole system particularly the digestive system. It quickly eliminates the toxins and keep the alimentary canal clean.

Following few regimens can help you to get rid of acidity, gastritis and acid reflux permanently.
